Could someone help me with a quick list of essential gear for beginners in hunting and fishing? The budget is pretty tight, though.

For hunting basics on a tight budget, grab a used .22 rifle or shotgun from a local ad, plus a basic daypack and some camo pants from Walmart. For fishing, a cheap spinning rod combo under 50 bucks and a tackle box with hooks, sinkers, and worms will get you started without breaking the bank.

Add a multi-tool knife that covers both hunting and fishing needs, like one with pliers for line cutting.

And do not forget bug spray and sunscreen, since beginners often skip that and end up miserable after a day out.

I was thinking about a used .22 rifle for small game and a cheap spinning rod combo for under $50. For fishing, I am thinking about basic split shot sinkers and size 6 hooks with nightcrawlers, and also sticking to 4-6 pound test line for panfish to save cash.
