I've been working on a load workup for my .308 for long-range shooting. I'm using 175 grain Sierra TMKs and trying to find the sweet spot with consistent velocity and accuracy. Would love to hear what others are doing for their long-range setups.

My favorite loads for my Remy 700 in .308 is a s follows,

IMR 4064 43.4 grains

Federal 210m Match Primer

Sierra 168 gr. HPBT Bullet

OAL 2.79"

Case length trimmed to 2.004

Appx. 2,200 FPS w/ 26" barrel.

I was told many years ago this is the same load used in Federal Gold Match ammo.

I've also had very good results with 44.5 grains of Varget and 42.5 grains of H4895. Same OAL

Another good load to try is 44.0 grains of RE15 with a 175 grain HPBT bullet.

When I was into long range 600 to 1000 yard competitions using a .45-70 cartridge, it's 82 grains of Swiss 1-1/2F, under a .060" LDPE wad, under a 532 grain bore rider slick wrapped in 7lb Seth Cole paper. This makes for a potent virtual .45-90 cartridge. Even I was amazed at the accuracy that could at times rival high powered smokeless cartridges in bolt guns with scopes.

I used to run this load in replica Sharps and Rem rollers with 30-34" bbls using iron tang and front peep sights, but as time and age advance, these dayze it's a simple CVA Scout break open w/25" bbl and 4-16x44 glass and lighter BP PPB bore rider loads of 65-75 grains under a 400-480 grain patched slick and short distances of 200-400 yards.

Life is still g00d, so far. :)
