I'm curious to know what everyone's favorite shooting range is. Do you prefer indoor ranges or do you like the openness of outdoor ones? What makes it the spot you keep coming back to?

Whilst I am a long time ANJRPC Cherry Ridge member, my favorite range is a private one that goes to 800 yards ... so lucky is me!

Wow, 800 yards in NJ. I didn't think there was a range that long in NJ, except for the black powder guys down near Millville. I don't remember the exact name, I think it was something like the Cumberland Riflemen & they had a 600 yard range.

Somewhat north of NJ.

Yes, 600yds @ Cumberland. There are places that I know of that can handle 1000 yards or more, but none are in the public perception, nor ever will be. ;)

Not an official shooting range but in 2017 I was fortunate enough to shoot at a cattle ranch in Cheyenne, WY. We were shooting at steel plates around 200 yds to 1200 yds. No scopes, but most of us were using Shiloh Sharps rifles with MVA tang sights in .45-70. Unfortunately I did not hit any dingers farther than the 600 yd distance. One of the fathers brought his teenage son out to play and he hit the 1200 yd steel before any of us! I did hit a few of the closer targets with my Ruger BLH 7 1/2" barrel with .44 mag.

I moved to the Upper Saddle River area 3 weeks ago. I'm looking for a rifle range to go to.

Suggestions?

There is a great range, Cherry Ridge Range in Highland Lakes, home to one of our great firearms organizations, ANJRPC. But it looks to be about 45 minutes from you. I don't know if you are looking for someplace closer?

Thanks for the information. I will check this out. When I lived in the Houston Tx area, I drove 1hr & 15 minutes to the range. 45 minutes is nothing.

As they say everything is bigger in TX.
The other good thing is that they are a gun organization specific to NJ that have been part of firearms lawsuits.

I have a whole lot of gun pals in TX from another website, www.levergun-scoundrels.com

I have 2 rifles, Tikka .223 and a Savage 6BR. However, I prefer my 20 Vartarg and 20 Practical handguns the most. The 20's are for prairie dogs in WY.

I loved WY when I took 2 trips out there. A friend of mine managed the Hereford ranch in Cheyenne and we got to shoot some 1,000 yard dinger targets. It was great.
