I'm wondering how well they're made and what ammo works best. I want to shoot targets in my yard and maybe hunt small stuff, so I need something that shoots straight and doesn't need much upkeep. Are there any problems I should know about?

This rifle's great for beginners. The action's super smooth straight away, it shoots almost any kind of .22LR ammo but be sure to check for loose screws after you've been shooting for a while

Modern lever actions and bolt rifles work well, so you can always count on using the factory ammunition

No worries, all the Henry .22 lever guns are excellent, feed 'em whatever rimfire type ya like as they'll all eat short, long, and the classic long rifle cartridges. For the best accuracy you'll need to test out different brands of long rifle cartridges and I'd suggest starting with CCI Standard. As to what model of Henry lever, it'll be mostly aesthetics and how much ya wanna spend, they're all good.
